Beaded Safety Pin - Extra Large, Extra Beads
Oxidized sterling silver and Swarovski crystals. Extra large size, safety pin style closure for all your larger knits. For use with large shawls, wraps, scarves and cardigans. Wearer can either “pierce” the knitted fabric in between the stitches, or gather the knitted fabric (i.e. for a shawl, wrap or scarf) in between the safety pin “arms’, and clip the pin closed so it surrounds all the material without piercing it. This extra large size is good for any larger fingering weight shawl, wrap or scarf, but also works on heavier weight yarn fabrics. It’s too large for any lace weight project, smaller sized shawl or wrap or thinner style of scarf or cowl. For those smaller projects made with lighter weight yarn, either the medium or small sized Beaded Safety Pin is a better choice, as they are both smaller & lighter.
Completely hand wrought by Lisa in her Toronto Studio. Made from oxidized sterling silver and an assortment of colours of crystal and/or pearl Swarovski beads with “friction fit” spacers in between to keep all the beads at the centre of the pin length. Each one is carefully handmade one at a time, and therefore uniquely beaded. The image above is the exact Beaded Safety Pin you will receive. This pin is beaded (left to right) Swarovski Jet Black spacer, Gray BeCharmed pearl bead, Denim spacer, Smoke coloured BeCharmed crystal bead, smoke spacer, Cream BeCharmed Pearl bead, Clear spacer, Jet Black BeCharmed crystal bead, Smoke spacer, Denim Crystal bead & Jet Black spacer. Each pin is approximately 5.5″ in length, 1.75″ wide, and any of the Swarovski crystals or pearls are about 1/2” in diameter. Pin weighs 43 grams, which is why it works better on a larger, heavier weight shawl, so the garment can support the weight of the pin. Pin arm “clicks” closed into the handmade closure offering more security once it is in the closed position. Each pin has Lisa’s engraved signature and year made on the back of the flattened arm closure piece.
The Swarovski crystals & pearl beads do not move easily on the safety pin (but can be moved if desired), and therefore it doesn’t matter how much fabric you grab to pin together, the beads will always be in the centre of the pin arm.
