Zooming & Frolicking

Posted by on Apr 23, 2021

At this point in our pandemic lives, everyone is familiar with participating in, or hosting, Zoom Events. I have done both over the past year. Recently, I’ve been asked to be a panelist in a Zoom Webinar, hosted by the Art Gallery of Burlington, on Tuesday, April 27th at 3:00 pm.

Please join me, as the AGB and I celebrate having my work available for purchase at their webstore. I will take you on a journey into my studio and give you an “up close and personal” look at my almost-30-year-career creating my unique line of chainmaille jewellery.

Click the Art Gallery of Burlington Logo link below for more information and to register for this Zoom event on Tuesday.

As much as I am looking forward to this event, I completely understand if you are feeling “Zoomed out” after way too many months of COVID. You might prefer some quiet contemplation and unrushed time instead. Why not come to my website and visit the newest category, “Knitting Accessories”

This labour of love has taken me months to get ready to launch, and I have just clicked the “Publish” button. If you’re a knitter, fibre enthusiast, or just love any kind of “Accessories”, click here (or image above) to see these one-of-a-kind items that are perfect for knitted scarves, cowls, shawls and wraps. They also work beautifully with other favourite, non-knitted items in your wardrobe.

My “Knitting Accessories” category is launching in conjunction with the kick-off of The Toronto Knitters Guild Virtual Faux Frolic Event. In “normal times”, today would be The Toronto Frolic Show, where fibre enthusiasts get together to celebrate all things fibre. This year, we are highlighting “Frolic” via Instagram. To see what we are up to, make sure you are following @lisaridout AND @torontoknittersguild.

If these two things aren’t enough to get you clicking on my website, you may want to know that I have recently added a few more products, including:

Carlu Bali Bead Earrings

Chica Earrings

Half Love Knot Pendant

Large Cascade Bracelet

Large Cascade Earrings

Large Cascade Pendant

Oval Love Knot Pendant

Jackie O Pendant

Magic Chains in 29” & 36”

Wow Large Pendant

Wow Squared Large Pendant

As this deadly pandemic rages on with this third wave, I’m finding lots of ways to keep myself busy in my studio. And I’m grateful to have already had my first vaccination dose, and hope that you have as well, or have an appointment to get yours soon.

On a personal note, when I finally hit publish for each knitting accessory, I expected to be filled with pride and relief; even for just a moment, until the work of running the business set back in. But I must confess, I didn’t feel like celebrating. In fact, I mostly just felt burnt out. After so many days and months of grinding work, I was feeling a tad underwhelmed. This is partly because when you manage your own website, you are never actually “done”. And the list of things to add, change, and/or improve is always looming over you. This is one of the many ways my business focus has changed. If I thought I spent a lot of time on my site in pre-pandemic days, I had no idea how much time I COULD spend on it.

The good news is that my website, monthly blogs and Instagram account have become the heartbeat and pulse of my business. Through them, you can reach out to me at any time if you have questions about anything, need more information, or just want to drop a “Hi” into my email inbox.
