Beaded Safety Pin - Large V4
Oxidized sterling silver and Swarovski crystal. Large size, safety pin style closure for all your larger knits. For use with large shawls, wraps, scarves and cardigans. Wearer can either “pierce” the knitted fabric in between the stitches, or gather the knitted fabric (i.e. for a shawl, wrap or scarf) in between the safety pin “arms, and clip the pin closed so it surrounds all the material without piercing it (as shown on the scarf above). This large size is good for any larger fingering weight shawl, wrap or scarf, but also works on heavier weight yarn fabrics. It’s too large for any lace weight project, smaller sized shawl or wrap or thinner style of scarf or cowl. For those smaller projects made with lighter weight yarn, either the medium or small sized Beaded Safety Pin is a better choice.
Completely hand wrought by Lisa in her Toronto Studio. Made from oxidized sterling silver and an assortment of three colours of crystal and/or pearl Swarovski beads. Each one is carefully handmade one at a time, and therefore uniquely beaded. The image above is the exact Beaded Safety Pin you will receive. This pin is beaded (left to right) Swarovski Amethyst BeCharmed crystal bead, Bali sterling spacer bead, Cream BeCharmed Pearl bead, Bali sterling spacer bead & AB (Aurora Borealis) coloured BeCharmed crystal bead. Each pin is approximately 4.25″ in length, 1.5″ wide, and any of the Swarovski crystals or pearls are about 1/2” in diameter. Pin weighs 24.8 grams, which is much lighter than the all precious metal Coiled Safety Pin, so can be used with lighter weight, large yarn projects.
The Swarovski crystals, pearl beads and Bali bead spacer beads, move on the safety pin, and if you grab a really generous portion of knitted fabric, you can adjust where you would like the beads to sit once it is affixed to the garment.
This Large Beaded Safety Pin is shown on a self-drafted simple garter stitch scarf pattern called The Knitted Timeline Scarf. A collaboration between myself and Lynnette Postuma of colorography.com, using Sanyo Silk – 100% silk 20/2 in light gray combined with my own personal “timeline colours” using Katia Concept – 50 Mohair Shades, in 14 colours, to create a beautiful 2-stranded fibre accessory.
