Description

Large size, safety pin style closure for all your larger knits. For use with large shawls, wraps, scarves and cardigans. Wearer can either “pierce” the knitted fabric in between the stitches, or gather the knitted fabric (i.e. for a shawl, wrap or scarf) in between the safety pin “arms, and clip the pin closed so it surrounds all the material without piercing it (as shown on scarf above). This large size is good for any larger fingering weight shawl, wrap or scarf, but also works on heavier weight yarn fabrics. It’s too large for any lace weight project, smaller sized shawl or wrap or thinner style of scarf or cowl. For those smaller projects made with lighter weight yarn, either the medium or small sized Beaded Safety Pin is a better choice.

Completely hand wrought by Lisa in her Toronto Studio. Made from oxidized sterling silver and an assortment of three colours of crystal and/or pearl Swarovski beads. Each one is carefully handmade one at a time, and therefore uniquely beaded.  The image above is the exact Beaded Safety Pin you will receive.  This pin is beaded (left to right in close up of bead image) Swarovski Jet BeCharmed crystal bead, Bali sterling spacer bead, AB BeCharmed crystal bead & ,Bali sterling spacer bead, Cream coloured BeCharmed pearl bead. Each pin is approximately 4.0″ in length, 1.5″ wide, and any of the Swarovski crystals or pearls are about 1/2” in diameter. Pin weighs 25.0 grams, which is much lighter than the all precious metal Coiled Safety Pin, so can be used with lighter weight, large yarn projects.

The Swarovski crystals, Bali bead spacers & pearl beads move on the safety pin, and if you grab a really generous portion of knitted fabric, you can adjust where you would like the beads to sit once it is affixed to the garment.

Safety Pin is shown on a Log Cabin Scarf that is my own self drafted pattern and then embellished with some small Czech glass beads and embroidery hand stitching techniques that I learned from the book, The Geometry of Hand-Sewing by Natalie Chanin.
