Meet Sue.

I first met Sue McNenly at the One of a Kind Show in 2010. At that time she was doing wall-mounted, framed, miniature fine-silver vignettes. Her work was so extraordinary that as I walked the “miles of aisles” on a break from my booth, I was literally, visually and emotionally drawn into her booth to take a closer look at her work. It was stunning. Since then, Sue’s work has blossomed and changed.

Due to a neck injury, Sue had to give up that type of metal smithing. Creatively, she adapted her art and spent a couple of years honing her new skills. She then combined them with her metal smithing knowledge and has created her own unique art, called Contemporary Encaustic.

Sue translates expansive feelings into tangible form using wax and precious metals. Silver and gold fabricated cells cradle miniature watercolour and gouache paintings, reflecting our personal stories in abstract form. Layers of painted and fused encaustic medium form an ethereal base in which to tether these elements, while sketches and line work connect the two. The end results are minimalist pieces that belie their complicated origins, drawing the viewer in and creating a feeling of calm wonder.

A limited selection of Sue’s sought-after miniature pieces will be available, perfect for brightening your life or gifting to a special someone. Ready to hang on a wall or sit on a shelf amongst other favoured treasures, these tiny gems never fail to bring a smile. Pieces range from 4” x 4” to 3” x 12”, priced from $125.
